Social media compliance looms as pressing issue
![]()
A new survey from consulting firm Protiviti has found that the top six priorities for CIOs are: Information security and privacy; virtualization and cloud computing; social media integration; data classification and management; regulatory compliance; and vendor management.
All of these issues are in scope for compliance and security executives. While each area is worth more discussion, we couldn't help noticing the priority of social media. Such "applications and sites such as Facebook and Twitter have exploded in popularity in the past few years and new social media sites are coming online at a rapid pace." But the study has also found that "vague or out-of-date social media policies" are in place at a lot of companies and are "unenforceable if inappropriate activity occurs."
This is of pressing interest in highly regulated industries especially, like the financial industries. To discuss a wide range of matters regarding social, please participate in our free webinar on October 26, called "The Future of Wealth Management: Social Media."
While this is focused on the financial services industry--we'll take a close look at the leading-edge efforts underway at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney--it will be of interest to all those interested in the many facets of providing a leading-edge social media program. Sign up free online. -Jim
