What keeps CIOs up at night?

The news that Citigroup just lost its acclaimed CIO for "personal reasons" after only nine months on the job reflects the reality of the job: It isn't getting any easier. Gartner has released a list of the top IT issues facing executives. Coming in at Number five is the onslaught of new business regulations. "After decades of deregulation, expect a backlash. New regulations from local, state, and national governments means changes to IT operations and business processes. And that means headaches akin to Sarbanes-Oxley. Brace yourself," says Gartner in an ITJungle.com article. 

We've been discussing pieces of this for some time. It's much larger than an IT issue. Everyone expects a new wave of rules. But the details remain to be seen. Forward-thinking companies have likely built up an infrastructure that can scale to meet the requirements. Others will be in for lots of pain.
