At many companies, employee business expenses--of which travel and entertainment are a big chunk--are the second largest expenses, according to commentary in the APJournal Online. That raises an obvious question about automation. Of course, employees fudging expenses is a grand old tradition. In the Sarbox era, getting a tight grip on such activity becomes even more important. This is a classic case of weighing the benefits of automation, the record-keeping compliance advantages, and the like against the costs of sticking with spreadsheets.
