Is the time ripe for a shredding company roll-up?

Shredding companies have likely seen a spike in business in the Sarbanes-Oxley era. No company wants to simply throw old documents--containing a lot of sensitive customer data--in their neighborhood trash bin. They want those documents physically destroyed. Many shredders are small local companies, and at least one effort is underway to create a nationwide roll-up. A Knoxville, TN-based company, 3GS, aims to roll up local companies and become the largest independent document destruction company in the United States, reports knoxvillebiz.com. It is aiming to buy about 30 companies, starting in the South. The company thinks Sarbox and HIPAA have put the wind at their back. Roll-ups, of course, tend to be easier to conceive than to carry out. But there are some examples of decent successes, especially in the financial advisory industry.
