IT departments deal with big issues as layoffs mount
When it comes to IT layoffs, you've got to make sure that core compliance and related functions are covered, as these things could easily be overlooked. Here's an easy one: Who's going to delete the passwords of other laid-off employees. It's surprising how many companies don't have anyone designated to do this. For those that do, the task could easily get lost as amid staff downsizing.
Even as you spread duties among fewer employees, you have to watch for violations of the principle of segregation, notes IT World. You certainly don't want to inappropriately combine duties. You don't want anyone amassing enough power to carry out fraud or sabotage the system. And what about IT assets? You could end up with a lot of orphan hardware. If you're planning layoffs, you might want to haves specific transition plans in place for your compliance efforts beforehand.
