Hi-fi trading looms as a huge issue
![]()
Those of you in the financial services industry have had a lot to keep up with over the past two years. "Reform," after endless chatter, is finally becoming a reality. And to some extent, there are few stones in the industry being left untouched. Just about every aspect of the business is in play, so to speak. One relatively recent area that has attracted enormous media and regulatory interest is high-frequency trading, which has exploded as a front-page issue over the last month.
The issues here are somewhat complex, and frankly not well understood. But the importance of this movement cannot be understated. At a minimum, you'll want to understand the processes and the implication of hi-fi trading, as it's called. In one sense it represents the technological culmination of other movements--toward better algorithmic trading methods, lower latency and better technology in general, and new execution options afforded by dark pools. It also touches on flash orders and even sponsored access.
All of this adds a lot of territory that you must stay on top off, from a business and technology--as well as a regulatory--standpoint.
To that end, we're pleased to be offering a FREE webinar on hi-fi trading, featuring two leading lights in the field: Kevin McPartland, of the Tabb Group, whose reports on this and related topics are really must-reads, and George Hessler, executive vice president of Lime Brokerage, a pioneering firm in this field. He'll address some of the regulatory implications. The free event will be held at 2 PM on Sept. 10. - Jim
