Here come the XBRL products

The SEC's mandate that the 500 largest public companies start to file financials in XBRL will likely have companies scrambling. Vendors already seem to be adjusting their marketing. SAP launched its "XBRL Publisher," a new application created with UBMatrix. The offering allows users of SAP applications to tag financial data aligned with GAAP, reports CFO.com.

Other vendors will likely be renewing their emphasis on such tools. Oracle's XBRL Manager feature of Oracle Hyperion Financial Reporting module has been available since 2006, but we may see it more prominently in the marketing. And then there are financial statement printers, such as Merrill Corporation, RR Donnelley and Bowne. Some think they will get in on the act and do the tagging for clients. We'll see how all this plays out, but hopefully this has been on your radar for a while.
