GRC: Big ERP players versus upstarts?

Like other big ERP players, SAP continues to add GRC functionality to its core offerings. The latest: It has released a couple of new applications that are aimed squarely at core GRC functions. They push toward the Holy Grail of continuous monitoring, at least from a marketing standpoint. One nice feature is the dash boarding and heat mapping that the new apps offer.

GRC modules are certainly common from the big ERP players. But the little guys approach the market a bit differently, more from a one-off vantage point. Certainly, the likes of Open Pages, Paisley, Protiviti and others are in the game. Protiviti just released a new governance portal. Many already have staked a claim to the monitoring and dash-boarding niche. So we'll have to see if the big guys can leverage their position as ERP and BI providers into the GRC market. My sense is that there will have to be some consolidation over time. Then again, people have been saying that for while now.
