GRC and green data centers

Data centers have taken on gargantuan importance as of late, especially in the financial services, biotechnology and other information- and data-driven sectors. Given that they are such power pigs, one emphasis has been on green data centers--a movement that GRC player MetriStream aims to tap. Shellye Archambeau, CEO of MetricStream, says that GRC processes can make data centers deal with "increasing energy cost, unpredictable energy capacity, environmental regulations, and their corporate social responsibility."

How might this work? Well, a good GRC program might define a governance process by which usage and emissions standards would be set. It might also extend a compliance program to environmental standards, external and internal. And it might establish risk metrics that would provide information and even alerts related to price risk, supply risks and environmental risks. Interesting approach, we'll see if the market moves that way.
