Data loss prevention technology basics

Data loss prevention technologies are somewhat in vogue these days. I think we'll see an industry trade group coalesce around the idea before too long. This is a good thing--as more companies need to pay more attention to securing their IP. Just look at the Goldman Sachs code theft scandal.

But buzzwords are only valuable if they take on a more literal meaning. Unfortunately making DLP a reality isn't easy, especially with a blizzard of products out there vying for you attention. CSO magazine has stepped forward with a look at the five technological pieces of the puzzle, all of which play into the idea of a solid DLP program:

1. Data discovery, classification and fingerprinting

2. Encryption

3. Gateway detection and blocking

4. Email integration

5. Device management

Are you covered in each area? Is all of this cohesively managed?
