Recall the saga of Rene Rebollo Jr., the former senior analyst for Countrywide. Rebollo allegedly used a flash drive to steal data on about 20,000 customers a week for two years. He sold the information and made a total of $50,000, federal investigators say. Rebollo has pleaded not guilty and will stand trial in January.
For Countrywide, the expected fallout is already underway. More than 30 suits have been filed nationally. All were transferred to Kentucky. This is great reminder of the stakes involved when it comes to internal security measures. Countrywide investigators reported the breach to the FBI, but that doesn't matter to plaintiffs.
