Compliance one of many RFID adoption issues

In recent years, adoption of RFID was driven largely by compliance issues. But a new report by ABI Research, of Oyster Bay, New York, says adopters are now driven by a broader range of issues, only one of which is compliance. Respondents plan to spend nearly 30 percent more on the technology than last year. Business process improvement seems to be the new driver. But as Sarbanes-Oxley implementations have evolved, it's fair to say that the two issues at some companies have merged. Better compliance, and all the data and efficiencies that flow from it, is a more effective process. So one subsumes the other. Indeed, the report found that in talking about business benefits, "we learned most people are using RFID for business process improvements and efficiency gains, improving asset visibility, security, and regulatory compliance." Sarbanes-Oxley was a huge issue with financial service respondents.
