A new survey by IDC and RevenueRecognition.com has found that fewer than half of financial managers are able to finalize their revenue numbers within the monthly close process. They attribute to rising complexity and the lack of automated solutions. Elsewhere in this issue, we note the problems with spreadsheets. In general, it seems that in creating various systems to manage and monitor key metrics, the management of revenue has somehow been overlooked. This can create closing chaos, especially when the quarter is ending. Still, the fact remains that in the sarbox era financial statement quality has improved. The number of financial restatements for big companies anyway has noticably declined over the past few years. That said, if your company has revenue issues, it's always a good idea to get a better grip.
