Chances are you're aware that a firewall protects the front end of your system. What about the back end? More companies are starting to adopt network access control measures to protect the system from within. While investment in internal protection still sorely lags, attitudes are changing. NAC appliance sales, by one measure, reached $83 million during 2006. That amount is expected to double this year. Whew! The heavyweights in the market include Microsoft, Juniper, HP, Extreme, Enterasys and Aruba among others. These solutions reformulate the access to the network process, upgrading the conventional use of simple passwords and physical entrance badge systems, etc. It maybe worth looking into all this. You'll be hearing about it most likely.
