Are you up to speed on data loss prevention?

The big boys have moved in. The likes of data loss prevention pioneers like Reconnex, Orchestria, Vontu, Provilla and Tablus have been swallowed up by McAfee, CA, Symantec, Trend Micro and RSA, which is owned by EMC. Most vendors seem bent on integrating the software into storage systems, desktop anti-malware suites and more. Computerworld says "the process of filtering content to spot leaks of data, intentional or otherwise, shows signs of starting to become commoditized." Adopting the technology at an enterprise level can be expensive. But the benefits are compelling. Data loss prevention is moving beyond the first generation products, which was focused on gateways and desktops. The functionality is now being linked into applications that govern digital rights management, identity and access management, notes the magazine. It just might play into e-Discovery as well, so at a minimum this is something to watch. Article
