Are you prepared for new security threats?

So what are you focused on from a security standpoint (data security news)? It's fair to say that the rollout of new technology always brings with it a security effort that many find to be lagging initially. That seems to be the case now to a certain extent.

Let's take a look at the top security concerns as issued by Stonesoft, a provider of security solutions. Credit cards and debit cards (credit card news) are hardly new, but they still represent a major security risk. The collective security efforts have proven to be a bit behind the criminals. All companies are grappling with this in their own way, often revolving around PCI-DSS, an upgraded version of which is coming soon.

Virtualization is definitely new at many companies, and most would agree that the security effort has been lagging at many companies. Stonesoft says that security concerns have mounted to the point that they now represent the main impediment to adoption. We're definitely seeing more vendors tune into this. Mobile phones are not new (mobile security news), but the rampant adoption of smart phones at the corporate level is. We have yet to see a major breach involving mobile technologies, but some think the risk is rising at grand levels.

This is part of larger threat stemming from tele-commuting in general. The risks perhaps need to be better appreciated. At a minimum, Stonesoft suggests administering remote mobile access via smartphones, laptops and other devices from a central point.
